Woodworking carbide insert knives or turnover knives are cutting tools commonly used in woodworking for planing, moulding, and finishing. They are small pieces of tungsten carbide mounted onto various cutterheads. Tungsten carbide, as a perfect raw material for manufacturing the insert knife, is extremely hard and durable and is resistant to wear and high temperatures. The indexable carbide insert knives are generally attached to cutterheads by using screws or clamps, allowing for easy replacement when one edge is dull.
Advantages than HSS knife
1.Mirror or normal face polished for smoother cutting, smaller chips, lower noise, less horse power requirement.
2.One cutting edge can last 10 times tool life than straight HSS knife blade, four sided design can last 40 times longer than straight HSS life.
3.Inexpensive carbide cutter can be rotated or replaced in a few seconds when it gets dull or chipped, no need to shut down machine for a long time like straight HSS planer knife.
